CopyBook helps a family prepare a child for the Secondary Entrance Assessment. It is used by parents and by children, and it holds information about children. This policy says plainly what we collect, why, who else sees it, how long we keep it, and how to get rid of it.
CopyBook is operated by the household account holder's service provider, contactable at privacy@copybook.app. If you are a parent or guardian with a question about your child's information, that address reaches a person.
About the parent — the name, email address and password you supply when creating a household, and a four-digit PIN used to keep child devices out of parent screens. The password and PIN are stored only as one-way hashes; we cannot read them.
About the child — the child's first name, their school standard, and optionally their date of birth, school name and exam date. These are entered by the parent, not by the child.
The child's work — answers to practice questions, scores and time spent; pieces of writing the child submits; and photographs of handwritten pages the child or parent chooses to have marked.
Device information — a device identifier, platform and app version, so a household can see which phones are paired and remove one it no longer recognises.
We do not collect location, contacts, advertising identifiers, or anything from the microphone. CopyBook contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software.
Marking and question writing use an external AI service. When a page is photographed for marking, that photograph is transmitted to our AI provider. When a piece of writing is submitted, its text is transmitted. Practice questions are generated the same way, though those requests carry only the topic, not anything about your child.
The provider processes this on our instructions to return a mark, and is contractually prevented from using it to train models. We share nothing with anyone else — we do not sell data, and there are no advertising or analytics partners.
Before a photographed page is sent, the top of it is cut off. A page of schoolwork usually has a child's name written across the top, and marking sums does not require knowing whose sums they are. The app covers that strip by default and lets the child drag the line to wherever their name actually ends. Those rows of pixels are removed from the image, not painted over — the file that leaves the phone does not contain them.
You can delete your household from inside the app: Settings → Delete this household. It asks for your parent PIN and your account password, and then removes the household, every child profile, all work and scores, every photograph and generated worksheet, and signs out every paired device. It cannot be undone and there is no retention period — the records are removed, not flagged.

CopyBook is designed for children and is used with a parent's involvement. A child profile can only be created by a parent who has signed in with the household password, and the policy is shown at that moment. A child's own device is issued a credential that cannot reach parent screens, cannot see a sibling, and cannot change household settings. We do not knowingly let a child create an account for themselves.
A parent may review or delete anything held about their child at any time, either by removing that child's profile in the app or by deleting the household entirely.
CopyBook cannot guarantee that a child will pass the SEA, and does not try to predict a result. It is a tool for practice and preparation — it helps a child work on the topics that are costing them marks, and shows a parent honestly how that practice is going.
The readiness figure is a measure of how much of the syllabus has been practised and how well it went. It is not a forecast, a mark, or an indication of how the exam will turn out. The SEA is set and marked by the Ministry of Education, and nothing here has any bearing on that.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who sees it, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
